VISUAL STUDIES & UPROCK NARRATIVES: DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY BY GEORGE R. MERCADO

ABOUT

George R. Mercado | Documentary Photographer

I'm a South Florida based documentary photographer that specializes in run-and-gun documentary, editorial and portraiture work from a fresh perspective. I've been creating multimedia content for over 25 years, with the last 15 being dedicated to mastering portraiture and documentary photography.

The experiences that shaped my childhood growing up in NYC and South Florida now inspire my focus as a photographer. Urban explorations, people, social documentary and hip hop/counter culture are my subjects of choice.

I got my creative start writing graffiti and illustrating comics as a teen, and eventually studied computer animation and graphic design at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. I took a break from the creative grind to get involved in social work in 2003, and the birth of my daughter inspired me to pick up a camera for the first time in 2005. I've been shooting with purpose ever since. When I'm not behind a lens, I co-direct an agency dedicated to improving the lives of the developmentally disabled in the Treasure Coast.

I appreciate your time. Commision work and prints are availiabe upon request. Please contact me here for more info.
